Like your father before you, you’re a busy man. You’ve got a demanding job, a family to look after and on top of that, you want to make sure you’re in good shape and in good health. It’s not wonder home workouts for men have become such a priority online – every smart man wants one.
So how do you figure out what kind of workout you can do at home, that’s going to give you the results you want?
Well, there are three major focus points across all home workouts for men.
1. Building out the upper body.
Any man who tells you he doesn’t want a solid pair of guns is lying to your face. Strong arms, a barrel chest and sculpted back are high on the priority list, and getting them doesn’t have to mean endless hours in a gym. Here at Only Bodyweight we’ve built specific workout sequences that focus solely on the upper body, allowing you to build lean muscle and increase your strength without having to step outside your front door or sit in stressful pre-gym traffic on the way home from work. The kind of exercises you want to include in your upper body routines include pushups, pullups, presses and a combination of plyometrics.
2. No skipping leg day.
Friends don’t let friends skip leg day. I know it’s tempting to focus solely on your rig, but if you don’t give your lower body some love, you’re going to look totally unbalanced. The dreaded ‘chicken leg’ look ain’t a good one. So, incorporating a wide variety of squat and lunge variations, along with some targeted calisthenic work for your butt and legs, like we do at Only Bodyweight, will save you from looking like you’re going to topple over at any moment. Aesthetics aside – having strong legs and glutes is key for being able to maintain a good fitness habit. These are the biggest muscles in your body and strength and balance you get from building them up allows you to make even greater gains in the rest of your body.
3. Cutting the fat.
No man on earth wants that spare tyre around the belly. No one wants to feel flabby or gross. Carrying around extra fat is a stressful, lame experience and we’d like to spare you. Cutting down on body fat is relatively simple when you’ve got a good plan – that’s why we love incorporating HIIT sessions into our Only Bodyweight programming. HIIT (high intensity interval training) has been proven time and again to be the single most effective way of reducing your body fat, without losing your precious muscle mass. Four to five minute sprint cycles, or short, tough circuits of demanding exercises (like burpees and wall sits) will get your heart rate up and your body fat coming down.
Home workouts for men don’t have to be complicated or hard to follow.
Let’s face it – the best plan is the one you will stick to. That’s why home workouts made up of bodyweight exercises and HIIT sessions are the best way to build the body you want, without disrupting the rest of your life.
You’ll be fit, lean and strong, without the stress of finding the time and money to train in a gym all the time. Your work will be better for it, you’ll be a better friend and family man, and you’ll really be able to enjoy your life when your body looks and functions like you want it to.
